Citizens Police Academy classes take place twice a year and are scheduled for 14 consecutive Tuesday nights, from 6:30 PM until 9:00 PM, at the Police Department located at 3001 N. 23rd Street in La Porte, at the corner of Spencer and 23rd.

Classes are taught by City of La Porte Police Department employees. Most are certified police officers of various ranks, while others are civilian employees in specialty fields covered during the training sessions. Classes include hands-on activities, demonstrations, and instructional training.

Upon graduation, students become eligible to join the Citizens On Patrol program, conducting patrols across the city to observe and report a variety of issues. Graduates are also encouraged to join LPCPAAA and assist the La Porte Police Department with a variety of duties and assignments.

Anyone who lives or works in La Porte, or who wishes to support and promote the La Porte Police Department and volunteer at Police Department and city events, may attend. All interested applicants must be approved through the application process.

Visit us during our monthly meeting at the LPPD Training Center on the first Thursday of each month, excluding December. Please check the meeting date for changes. You do not have to be a member to attend.

Although most volunteers are graduates of the Citizens Police Academy, anyone wishing to volunteer is welcome. Pre-approval and screening are required for those who are not CPA graduates.

We have events of all types and need volunteers for an hour, several hours, or all day. You choose.
